Organic by design, the home you live in
Organic by design? Why not? It’s not easy to create an organic environment in our homes, but if you appreciate eating foods free of additive, why not opt for living in an all natural house?
Most materials being used in today’s homes are synthetics; man made, but just a few decades ago, our homes were built from all natural materials, such as wood, stone, brick or stucco. These natural materials cost quite a bit more, so you’ll either have to compromise on square footage, or style. Homes with steep roofs that have reverse gables, or raised plate lines are pretty, but expensive. Homes with low pitches, and few exterior corners are cheap by comparison, so even if you’re on a budget, it’s possible to keep your home all natural. Synthetic materials cannot compete with the bold look of authentic materials
Build a home that is people friendly; a home that lets the sunshine in; a home filled with fresh air; with water rich in mineral value. The filtering systems in our homes are good for the plumbing, but bad for our health. Stripped of value, pure water is less than desirable, because without minerals, we cannot live. Responsible for alkalinity, carbonate mineral (KH) gives water, and our blood as well, the ability to support oxygen. Healthy blood is heavily oxygenated. Without this mineral there would be no life in our natural bodies of water; no life on earth. Other important minerals are magnesium and calcium (GH) both equally important to our health. Water your plants with filtered tap water, and you’ll need to supply the missing minerals, or the plants will wither away. The same is true of humans and animals. We all must have these vital minerals, and water is the best way to get them
You’ve heard that sunshine gives you vitamin D, but it does much more. The ultraviolet (UVB) rays aids in calcium production, strengthening bones. We call it the sunshine vitamin. Sunlight increases serotonin levels in the brain, preventing depression, and seasonal mood disorders. Imagine all of the people taking harmful drugs to lessen depression, when all they really need is to get outside and get some sun, which increases serotonin levels in the brain. Moderate exposure to sun helps regulate the immune system, triggering the release of nitric oxide, lowering blood pressure. The best time to sun is morning. The morning sunlight will regulate circadian rhythm, and if when you turn all the lights off at night, you’ll sleep well. We’ve been told that the sun causes cancer, and to either stay indoors, or use a sun block, loaded with dangerous chemicals. Have they been making us sick so they can get rich healing us?
A home properly oriented to solar exposure should allow plenty of natural light, while protecting you from the harsh afternoon sun
Houses today are overly insulated, which of course reduces energy use, but just how healthy are these homes to live in. Back in the old days, when homes could breathe, because they had little insulation. This means air, cold or warm, seeped into the house, uninvited. We sat around the fireplace or the wood burner to keep warm. Today, this sounds archaic, but it was very healthy. Homes were filled with fresh air, and the fires that warmed us provided infra red light; which we’ve discovered has many health benefits. Today most of our homes are heated with electric, or gas. If there is a flame, it’s hidden inside of the furnace, with forced air keeping us warm in every nook and cranny of the house. Most of us sit around watching tv in the evenings, yawning, and falling asleep. This is due to the Co2 (carbon dioxide) in your home; recycled air. Crack a window, or open a door periodically to let the fresh air in. If you’re planning on building a new home, be sure to include a wood burner, or a fireplace. You’ll not only reap the health benefits, but you’ll also stay warm in a power outage
Some of us are lucky enough to have swimming pools in our back yards, and while adults and children alike greatly enjoy the activity, the chemicals we use to keep the water free of bad bacteria may be just as dangerous as the germs they kill. Is it possible to swim safely in a pool without these chemicals? If you’ve ever swam in a river or lake, you’ll agree it is possible. Have you ever heard of the nitrogen cycle? This omnipotent event is happening quietly, behind the scene in every ocean, lake, river or creek. The critters that live in the waters make waste. From waste, ammonia forms. Ammonia is toxic to any creature exposed to it, but it’s also a food source for beneficial bacteria. They form to feed on the toxin naturally. They convert the ammonia into nitrites, the second toxin to form in the nitrogen cycle. Nitrites is deadly to animal life. When nitrites are present, another type of friendly bug appears magically, consuming the toxin, converting it into nitrates, the third and final toxin in the nitrogen cycle. Nitrates are deadly, but only in high amounts. Thankfully, nitrates are a food source for algae, the end result of the nitrogen cycle. All plants feed on nitrates, and most of them, like algae, are a food source for fish. The fish consume the plants, and then produce waste, completing the circle of life
If you were to test ammonia, nitrites and nitrates in a healthy, natural body of water, you would find a reading of zero for all three toxins. Thanks to Mother Nature, we can enjoy a swim with no worries of infection
